Methodology & Data Sources

Accuracy is only meaningful if it is transparent. This page explains where our numbers come from and how each tool calculates its result, so you can judge the data for yourself and cite it with confidence.

Shoe and clothing sizes

Footwear conversions are anchored to foot length in centimetres, the universal physical reference. Rather than mapping one regional system directly onto another — which compounds rounding errors — we convert through centimetres: your size is matched to a foot length, and that length is read back out in the target system. The same principle keeps Japanese (which is based on centimetres), Korean (millimetres) and inch conversions internally consistent.

Clothing equivalences use widely published standard apparel charts for US, EU, UK and international (S–XXL) sizing. Because vanity sizing means real garments vary between brands, we present these as a reliable starting point and always recommend checking a brand's own size guide.

Cooking and baking

Weight-to-volume conversions depend on density, which is specific to each ingredient. One cup of all-purpose flour weighs about 125 grams; one cup of granulated sugar weighs about 200 grams. Densities are sourced from the USDA FoodData Central database where an official figure exists, and from established baking references otherwise — these are clearly labelled. All volume conversions use the US customary cup of 236.588 millilitres.

Event countdowns

Fixed holidays (such as Christmas or Halloween) are calculated from their calendar date. Moveable feasts are computed from documented rules: Easter uses the Anonymous Gregorian "computus" algorithm, and dates like Thanksgiving, Memorial Day or Black Friday are derived from their weekday-of-month definitions. The remaining-days figure is generated at build time for search engines and updated live in your browser.
